The Watchdog with David Bozell
We obviously don’t know everything about what happened at Cornell. A former student alleges she was drugged and sexually assaulted by fraternity members in October 2024. The accused have denied the allegations, and the criminal investigation has now been reopened. It is a serious case, with serious questions still to be answered.
But there is one mystery we can probably clear up right now:
Donald Trump had nothing to do with it.
The alleged incident happened on October 19, 2024. Joe Biden was president. Trump wouldn’t return to the White House for another three months.
Enter The View, aka “The Cacklers,” ABC’s daytime talk show that the network insists qualifies as a bona fide news program.
Discussing the Cornell case, Whoopi Goldberg somehow traveled from an alleged crime committed in 2024 to the man currently occupying the White House. She complained that Americans were hearing “at the top” that this behavior had somehow become “normalized,” before declaring that the problem “has to stop at the top.”
At the top of what? The space-time continuum?
We don’t know what happened in that frat house. The courts, investigators, lawyers, and everyone involved have a lot left to sort out. But unless Trump owns a DeLorean we don’t know about, blaming his presidency for something alleged to have occurred while Biden was sitting in the Oval Office requires a fairly creative relationship with the calendar.
And therein lies the problem with The View.
Start with Trump. End with Trump. It doesn’t matter if the dates get in the way.
MRC has formally challenged ABC’s claim that The View deserves the protections afforded to a bona fide news interview program. Moments like this help explain why. A news program is supposed to establish the facts and then discuss them. The Cacklers seem increasingly comfortable deciding where they want to land and working backward.
Reality is apparently negotiable.
The calendar, fortunately, is not.
