The Watchdog with David Bozell
MRC’s coverage of the media’s partisan spin on the Minneapolis ICE shooting reached 18.3 million views online by Monday, fueled by shares from high-profile commentators including Megyn Kelly, Sean Spicer, and Stephen Miller. In a video commentary, MRCTV’s Brittany Hughes documented how legacy media outlets prioritized coverage of Renee Nicole Good’s death at the hands of a federal ICE agent while downplaying other violent incidents involving illegal immigration and American victims. That clip alone generated 7.9 million views, a figure roughly eight times the combined nightly audiences of CNN and MSNBC.
MRC also released data from its proprietary Digital News Tracker, which scanned the Big Four News Apps (Apple News, Google News, MSN, and Yahoo News) for coverage of the Minneapolis shooting. The tracker found 30 total stories on the incident, only three of which leaned conservative, meaning just 10 percent of the coverage reflected a right-of-center perspective in platforms that claim editorial neutrality. This reinforces long-standing concerns about partisan imbalance in algorithmic news provisioning.
MRC’s Curtis Houck has appeared multiple times on Newsmax this week to discuss the media’s framing of the Minneapolis event, and senior writers like Tim Graham have addressed the issue in columns for Fox News Digital and Townhall.
While the legacy media continue to defend their editorial decisions, MRC’s analysis underscores persistent bias in news apps and major outlets. Millions of Americans are seeking unfiltered reporting. Our ongoing goal is to expose imbalance and hold powerful platforms accountable.
