In late July, we published a study showing that since September 2022, Colbert had on 176 left-leaning guests and exactly one Republican — Liz Cheney. The New York Post put our findings on the front page.
That drove the Left nuts. Colbert’s former producer, Pete Dominick, lashed out on a podcast, calling MRC “discredited,” “conspiratorial,” and worse. He even claimed Colbert invited conservatives such as JD Vance but they refused to appear because Colbert is “too good at embarrassing them.”
Here’s the truth:
- Our study tracked who actually appeared on air, not who may or may not have been invited — because that’s all viewers see.
- Trump’s 2015 Colbert appearance has nothing to do with our current count, which began in 2022.
- Colbert himself recently admitted he won’t host Trump or politicians he thinks “don’t honestly represent what they believe.”
- Contrast that with Bill Maher, who says Republicans love doing his show while Democrats avoid it.
- And yes, we were generous. We counted Liz Cheney as the lone “Republican” guest, even though most conservatives would say she no longer fits the bill.
