CBS's Cowan Forwards Bloomberg Attacking Gun Rights Advocates

Media Research CenterOn the July 22 CBS Sunday Morning show, correspondent Lee Cowan highlighted criticism of gun rights by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, using a soundbite of the liberal mayor scurrilously remarking that gun rights advocates "think that the right to bear arms allows you to go out and kill people at random," before adding, "And that's not overstating it very much."

The report, which focused primarily on details of the Aurora theater massacre and its victims, digressed for a moment into the gun control issue, but only included the side that supports more gun control:

LEE COWAN: The sadness over all that loss, though, is, in part, turning to anger. It's renewed debate over the nation's gun control laws, much as the Columbine shooting did. But neither of the presidential candidates even mentioned the word "gun" during their remarks. The mayor of New York, however, Michael Bloomberg, did.

MICHAEL BLOOMBERG, NEW YORK CITY MAYOR: I think all of them have been cowed by a handful of advocates who think that the right to bear arms allows you to go out and kill people at random. And that's not overstating it very much.

COWAN: Legislative changes may be far off, but, already, the experience of going to the movies has changed.
