In the span of just a few days in June, two of the media's biggest stars revealed the same fatal flaw: They actually believe their own mythology.

Scott Pelley lost his position at 60 Minutes after years of assuming his job was not to report on President Trump, but to sit in judgment of him. With all the pomp and self-importance of a man who believes history is watching, Pelley wondered aloud whter Trump was "in defiance of the Constitution." You can almost imagine the nods of approval from his friends in the Washington and New York media circles.

The amazing part is that Pelley apparently thought the rest of us bought it too.
