Network Shows May Add Global Warming Propaganda

Apparently unsatisfied with NBC’s current “Green Week” programming (150 hours between Nov. 16 – 22), Hollywood has been working on getting more climate change agitprop on the air.

According to a Nov. 18 Reuters article by Sue Zeidler, a group of network television writers met in Los Angeles this week “to discuss how incorporating the growing threat of climate change into primetime storylines could inspire viewers to live green.”

The meeting was hosted by the Population Media Center, a left-leaning non-governmental organization whose mission is to “bring about stabilization of human population numbers” and to “lessen the harmful impact of humanity on the earth’s environment.”  It does this “through the use of entertainment-education strategies, like serialized dramas on radio and television, in which characters evolve into role models for the audience for positive behavior change,” according to its website.

If Zeidler was troubled by the idea of injecting propaganda into entertainment shows, she didn’t say it. “Hollywood has long used its star power to help the environment,” she wrote, without even a nod to the existence of differing opinions on the issue of man-made global warming.

Nor did the involved Hollywood writers express any reservations about politicizing their entertainment products to manipulate their viewers. Zeidler quoted one meeting participant as saying, "The only rules we have are: don't be preachy and don't compromise our show's entertainment value."
