As the internet blossomed and more people sought content quickly and easily, Wikipedia was born. Launched on Jan. 15, 2001, the free online encyclopedia platform allowed users to find information and create, write, add and edit content.

However, in recent years, Wikipedia has been radicalized from a relatively straightforward repository of information into a leftist bullhorn. Under the leadership of Katherine Maher (now NPR chief), who led Wikipedia’s parent company, Wikimedia, from 2016 to 2021, the online site started enforcing sourcing policies that favored leftist perspectives while suppressing conservative viewpoints.

Originally published as a short op-ed in The Daily Wire, the MRC study reveals that 85% of outlets identified by the media ratings service AllSides as left-leaning have been approved as reliable sources for citation on Wikipedia. In contrast, 0% of the right- leaning outlets have received the same endorsement.
